Aussie Josh Waters who finished 3rd in the 125 Race

John McGuinness, Michael Rutter and old Mr.
Endurance himself, Brian Morrison
Michael Rutter got away at the
start, chased by John McGuinness and Brian Morrison but Brian hit a false
neutral going into the Lisboa corner for the first time and was passed by Marcus
Barth, Stuart Easton and Ian Lougher - on the climb up San Francisco hill he was
lying 6th but managed to reel in and pass everyone except Rutter and McGuinness.
Morrison was able to match the times set by John McGuinness but was unable to
catch him and finished in 3rd. Rutter meanwhile had pushed from the start,
breaking the lap record by nearly a second before easing off to the end of the
race as his tyres started to go off.
Stuart Easton would quite
possibly have been on the podium if it hadn't been for running wide at the
extremely tight Melco Hairpin. He had to extricate himself from the armco
barrier and dropped from 3rd to 16th but fought back to finish 5th.
Steve Plater was right next to
Pete Jennings on the grid who may have twitched a bit at the start - which was
enough for Plater to let out the clutch and fire the bike off the line...and
consequently suffer a jump-start penalty. Nevertheless, on the way to third
place, Plater
took the fastest Supersport lap on the Honda Racing 600...he broke the
Supersport lap record by a massive four and-a-half seconds!
Australian Cameron Donald won the 600 class on the Zongshen Yamaha, with Kiwi newcomer
Bruce Anstey just under 2 seconds behind him on the Valmoto 600 Triumph.
Iain Duffus had a bit of a
wild time after having to come in with a flat tyre after the warm-up lap. With
cold air pumped in to the tyre just before the start, apparently Duffus had some
wild moments on the first lap with a cold tyre!
